Topeka holds on for 4-2 win against Texas

The Topeka Capitals survived a determined comeback attempt by the Texas Jr. Brahmas on the way to a 4-2 win.

Topeka took a 4-0 lead during the second period, only to have Texas storm back on a Mykyta Sheptytsky goal 2:00 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

The Capitals were helped by Dylan Wattles, who registered one goal. Wattles scored 5:11 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Topeka. Alex Johanson provided the assist. Topeka also got a goal from Kyle Rimbach as well. In addition, Topeka received assists from Benton Deanovich, who had two and Igor Valko, Alex Sauer, Steve MacIver, and Trey Opack, who contributed one each.

The Jr. Brahmas managed to stay out of the box better than usual, totaling one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Texas ended up below its season average of 12.0 penalty minutes per game.

Chase Deacon also scored for Texas. More assists for Texas came via Jon Grimm, Nick Nitta, Kurt Thiele, and Ryan Dunner, who each chipped in one.

Bailey Aust rejected 26 shots on goal for Topeka. The Capitals incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Jr. Brahmas\’ starting goalie, Quinton Reynolds, made 13 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Joe Hacker, who stopped 10 shots. Texas registered one goal on three power play opportunities.
