Texas falls to Topeka in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

The Topeka Capitals\’ Colin OConner scored 3:13 into overtime to beat the Texas Jr. Brahmas, 4-3 (OT).

Topeka got the win thanks to a great game by OConner, who had two goals and one assist. OConner scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 18:28 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Topeka. A roughing penalty on Ian Atencio had put the Capitals on the power play. Andrew Cooley assisted on the tally. OConner\’s next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 Topeka with 16:47 left in overtime. Hank Roers picked up the assist.

Topeka stifled Texas\’ power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Capitals forced the Jr. Brahmas goalie Tristan Canter to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots. The defensemen of Topeka were also effective in Texas\’ zone, and came away with two goals.

Topeka additionally got points from Alex Sauer, who also finished with one goal and three assists and Trey Opack, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. More assists for Topeka came via Jaydn Munnelly, who had one.

The Jr. Brahmas were helped by Austin Davis, who registered one goal. Davis scored short handed 18:03 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Texas. A kneeing call on Zac Flachman put Texas on the penalty kill. Others who scored for Texas included Paolo DiGenova and Zach McPherson, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Texas were Nick Nitta, Kurt Thiele, Anthony Koslow, and Ryan Dunner, who contributed one each.

Bailey Aust recorded 22 saves for the Capitals. Topeka incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Jr. Brahmas\’ Canter stopped 39 shots out of the 43 that he faced. Texas incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
