Series preview: Brahmas match up with Atlanta at home

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TEXAS — The NA3HL Texas Brahmas host the Atlanta Capitals for the first time in the 2020-21 regular season this weekend, embarking in the first series against Capitals of the year. The Brahmas went 11-0 against the Capitals during the 2019-20 regular season, posting a perfect record.

“It will be nice to get back in action in front of our fans on home ice,” said head coach of the Brahmas, Ryan Anderson. “We’ve only played one game since November 8. We have been competing very hard in practice and we have also used this time to become a tighter knit group.  Atlanta has had a very successful start to the season and I was very impressed by the quality of their play on video. Our group must understand that last year was last year; this weekend will provide a very strong test and I look forward to seeing how our group responds.”

Many of the team’s offensive and defensive core will lace up against Atlanta after recovering from injury. Forward Benjamin Mondou was named the NA3HL South Division Bauer Star of the Week, after a standout offensive performance against the Jr. Stars where he recorded two goals and one assist.

The Brahmas are third in the NA3HL South Division Standings behind the Atlanta Capitals and the Oklahoma City Blazers, posting a record of 9-2-0. Overall, the team is placed ninth within the NA3HL, accumulating 18 points.

The puck drops at NYTEX Sports Centre on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CST and Sunday at 8:00 p.m. CST. Tickets will be available at the door for $5 and broadcasted on HockeyTV.com.

Series preview: Brahmas face the RoadRunners in first away games of the season

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TEXAS — The NA3HL Texas Brahmas hit the road for the first time in the 2020-21 regular season today, embarking in the second series against Texas RoadRunners of the year. The Brahmas are 2-0 against the RoadRunners in the regular season so far, scoring 14 goals this past weekend at NYTEX Sports Centre.

“I was very happy with our response this past weekend against the RoadRunners after a disappointing weekend against OKC,” said Head Coach of the Texas Brahmas, Ryan Anderson.  “I was happy to see our group learn from the adversity and get back on track.  The first road trip of the year is always a difficult one. We have talked about the importance of making sure we are ready to play a full 60 on the road. I am excited to see how our first year players handle it.”

While the injury bug has unfortunately bitten a few Brahmas, many of the team’s core head to College Station in hopes of returning with six points and continuing the team’s current two-game winning streak. Forward Tyler Blanchard was named the NA3HL South Division Bauer Star of the Week, after a standout offensive performance against the RoadRunners where he tallied three goals and five assists.

The Brahmas sit at third in the NA3HL South Division Standings behind the Atlanta Capitals and the Oklahoma City Blazers, posting a record of 5-2-0. The squad clinched the top-ten ranking within the league’s teams with their wins over the RoadRunners, tied for fifth place in goal differential with a value of 20.

The puck drops at Spirit Ice Arena tonight and tomorrow at 6:15 p.m. CST, with Sunday’s contest beginning at 1:45 p.m. CST. All three games will be broadcasted live on HockeyTV.com.

Series preview: Brahmas look to add two against RoadRunners

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TEXAS — It’s the battle of eastern Texas this weekend as the Texas Brahmas take on the Texas RoadRunners this Saturday and Sunday at NYTEX Sports Centre. The Brahmas look to bounce back after dropping two games against the Oklahoma City Blazers last weekend, ending their 22-game win streak.

“It was obviously disappointing to our group to be swept at home,” said head coach of the Brahmas, Ryan Anderson. “Full credit goes to OKC, as they came into our building and gave our team a wake up call. I thought their goalie played extremely well and they took advantage of our mistakes. We have had an extremely tough week in practice and we expect to see improvement in all facets of our game. Our special teams really need to step up and get going.  Coach Beavis has done a fantastic job in turning around the Texas Roadrunners. I expect him to have his team well prepared and we must be ready to perform. This is a very important series for us early in the season. It will be a great indicator as to how this group can deal with and learn from adversity.”

Newcomer Micah Maldonado recorded his first goal as a Brahma in the beginning game of the series, with skaters Danny Barry and Joe Dorion tallying the remaining two of the three goals scored. Mason Mara, Richard Indermill and Blake Rothstein also earned points. The lone goal on Sunday was recorded by Ian Erdman, his first of the 2020-21 NA3HL regular season.

Two Brahmas hit career milestones over the weekend, as Leevi Selanne played his 50th game for the Texas Brahmas and Tyler Blanchard recorded his 75th career assist.

The Texas RoadRunners start the season with a record of 2-5-1-0 (W-L-OTL-SOL) in eight games played. During the 2019-20 season, the Brahmas met the RoadRunners twelve times, earning a perfect record of 12-0-0-0 against the team.

Saturday’s contest begins at 7:00 p.m. CST, with Sunday’s puck dropping at 2:30 p.m. CST. Tickets are $5 at the door at NYTEX Sports Centre, with both games also being broadcasted on HockeyTV.

Series preview: Brahmas look to continue win streak in series against Oklahoma City

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TEXAS — The Texas Brahmas continue their season this weekend as they take on the Oklahoma City Blazers in a two-game series on Saturday and Sunday at NYTEX Sports Centre. The team notches a perfect 3-0-0 record for the 2020-21 season so far, defeating the Louisiana Drillers in the home-and-season opening contests last weekend.

“We couldn’t have planned a better start to our 20-21 season,” said Texas Brahmas head coach Ryan Anderson. “It was great to see the energy the fans brought for our home opener and they definitely helped set the tone for the night. It was a weekend of firsts for our club as well with guys earning their first NA3HL goals and wins. I was especially happy with the way our returning players led the way.  I felt like we got better each night, but we still have a ways to go to be the team we want to be.  I am very excited about the tough matchup that Oklahoma City presents and I look forward to seeing how we respond to the challenge.”

Eighteen different Brahmas tallied points in last week’s series, establishing the squad as an offensive force to be reckoned with on the ice. Forwards Jack Cooper, Jacob Kalandyk and Tyler Blanchard lead the team with five points each–an amount that resulted in Cooper and Kalandyk being named an NA3HL Second Star of the Week and honorable mention, respectively. The Brahmas earned 16 goals across all three games, notching them at a tie for second place in the NA3HL South Division standings.

Goalie Jaxon Taylor earned the Brahmas their first shutout of the year, stopping 14 shots and pulling him into the top-three goalies in the NA3HL in goals against average and save percentage. Goalie Dolan Gilbert also ranks within the top ten spots, after opening the season for the Brahmas and completing 29 saves.

This weekend will be the first-ever meetup between the Brahmas and the Blazers, as Oklahoma City joins the NA3HL this year from the Western States Hockey League. Tickets can be purchased at the door at NYTEX Sports Centre on Saturday and Sunday for $5 or can be streamed on HockeyTV.com.
