Ryan Anderson takes over as Texas Brahmas Head Coach

May 7, 2019

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX – The Texas Brahmas will have a new head coach on the bench when the next season starts, but Ryan Anderson won’t be a completely new face to the fans.

Anderson, a native of Kingsford, Michigan, grew up playing hockey in his hometown and played all the way through high school.

After high school, Anderson put hockey aside for six years to join the Navy as an electronics technician and served four deployments. Following his service, Anderson was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia and soon got back into hockey, only this time as a coach.

Starting with the Hampton Roads Whalers in Chesapeake, Virginia, Anderson coached all levels of the travel and youth teams for six years from 2010-2015 winning two league championships at different age groups. While coaching the Whalers, he was successful in moving many of his players on to the AAA and Jr. hockey levels.

His next stop was just a short drive away back in Norfolk as an assistant with the Norfolk Admirals in the East Coast Hockey League. For the next two seasons, Anderson worked with top hockey minds like Eric Veilleux, Ben Boudreau, and United States Hockey Hall of Famer, Robby Ftorek.

In 2017, Anderson made his move to Texas to take an assistant coaching position for one season with the Corpus Christi Ice Rays.

Then the Texas Brahmas came calling as Anderson joined the team as an assistant just before the 2019 playoffs and was part of the team’s run that brought home the Fraser Cup.

Being part of the team for a championship run made it easy for owner and president Frank Trazzera to pull the trigger and make Anderson the next head coach.

With another championship under his belt, Anderson is ready for this next challenge as he prepares for his first full season with the Texas Brahmas.

Anderson comes in with the bar already set high, but is a proven winner and will continue to carry on the Texas Brahmas’ winning tradition.

What they’re saying:

Ryan Anderson, New Texas Brahmas Head Coach: “I am very excited and honored to be named the next Texas Brahmas Head Coach.  I would like to thank the Trazzera family for this wonderful opportunity to become a head coach for the first time at the junior level.  I was lucky enough to arrive prior to the Fraser Cup championship run and look forward to the challenge of repeating.  We have a very strong group of returners and I cant wait to get started!”

Dan Wildfong, Lone Star Brahmas Head Coach: “Ryan Anderson is a great addition to our program. He brings plenty of knowledge on what it takes to play at the NAHL and pro level and will help prepare the Brahmas to make the jump and play at those higher levels. I’m very excited to have the opportunity to work with Ryan as part of the Brahmas organization.”

Frank Trazzera, Owner/President of NYTEX Sports Centre: “This organization is excited to have Ryan Anderson lead the Texas Brahmas and develop our talent into great hockey players. Having Ryan around for the Fraser Cup championship gives him a great head start with the Brahmas. He’s already had a feel for what this team can do and it and will no doubt  build on the recent success.”
