New Year, Same Team

Jan 1, 2016

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX – The Brahmas opened 2016 with an emphatic 5-1 win over the Louisiana Drillers on Friday night.

Just 46 seconds into the game, George Hansen floated one towards the cage and thanks to a Garrett Culps screen it found its way past Drillers netminders Sean Angle to make things 1-0 early.

The second goal of the night was a beautiful one courtesy of Ryan Dunner’s persistence.  After dangling through a Driller defender, #22 rifled one wide of the net but played the bounce correctly and beat several members of the opposition to the puck on the other side of the net.  Then after a quick move back towards the middle of the ice, the New Jersey native sent a backhander home.

Before the first period came to an end the Brahmas tacked on another, this time it was Victor Ekk.  A clean face-off win by Brock Brown set up Jacob Elrod for a hammer from that point, which then bounced off the paraphernalia of the goaltender for a slam dunk for #8.

In the second, George Hansen made a next level pass the length of the ice to hit Ekk on the tape for a breakaway.  The Russian sensation buried a shot blocker-side high to extend the lead to four.

The fifth goal of the night was a special one; the first of Bennett Weycker’s NA3HL career.  After using his frame to his advantage all evening, the Wisconsin native found the back of the net with a wrister from the circle.

Louisiana would record the final goal of the night as Kolton Huff followed suit with his first in the league.

Backstopping the Brahmas to victory was Brandon Perrone.  In his return to the lineup post-NAHL call-up, Perrone stopped 11 of 12 for his 11th win of the season.

The two teams will square-off again tomorrow at 2:05 at NYTEX Sports Centre.  The game is admission-free, so come on out!
