NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX – The Texas Brahmas have announced that import forward Oliver Hay ('97) has signed a contract to join an already loaded Brahmas forward unit for the 2015-16 season. Hay, who hails from Auckland, New Zealand was first noticed at the Brahmas Pre-Draft camp in Chicago earlier this off-season and is expected to add an offensive as well as physical element to the Brahmas lineup this season.

“Oliver displayed a very well-rounded game for us and we expect him to have a really bright future here in the Brahmas purple and black,” Head Coach Al Rooney said. “He looked comfortable in a variety of situations, whether it was making a skill play with the puck, driving the net without the puck or finishing his checks defensively. He brought it all and we expect he will continue to do so this season for us.”

Hay (6’0”, 190) played U18 Midget AAA in Canada the last three seasons for the CAHA Voyageurs and scored 27 points in 27 games, notching 8 goals and 19 assists. He has also represented his home country of New Zealand at the World Championships, where he has scored 8 points in 14 games. “The international experience he brings will also be invaluable for him as he moves forward with his career as a Brahma,” Rooney added.

“Even with this being his first season in junior hockey, with his experience we think he can be a leader for us, especially with the maturity he displayed on and off the ice for us in Chicago.” Hay will join several of his Brahmas teammates at the NAHL Lone Star Brahmas Main Camp in Detroit later this month where he will be vying for a roster spot with the top club. “He certainly made an impression on them as well in Chicago, and it’s our hope that if he isn’t there right away, that he will eventually grow into that opportunity for himself by earning it with his play,” Rooney said.

The Brahmas roster now sits at 13 players for the coming NA3 season. It’s expected to grow as several more players will look to be added after completion of the Brahmas NAHL Main Camp when it’s held in Detroit from July 23rd to the 26th. The NA3HL Training Camp will kick off in Mid-August as the Brahmas prepare for the NA3HLseason in their quest for the Silver Cup Championship.
