Brahmas – Ducks Preview

Mar 17, 2017

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX — After clinching the South Division title in the final game of the regular season, the Texas Jr. Brahmas are looking to ride that momentum into the first round of the playoffs.

They’ll be facing the Point Mallard Ducks in a best-of-three series this weekend.

The Brahmas have seen their fair share of success against the Ducks, posting a 3-0-1 head-to-head record during the regular season and will look to continue in the same vein.

They’re in a good position to do so, as goaltender Tyler Myers is coming off of an excellent weekend in which he posted two shutouts and a .988 save percentage, earning him South Division Star of the Week honors.

In terms of offense, forward Kyle Torgerson has been on a tear, with six goals in his last four games. NA3HL rookies Jake Peterson and Jacob Berry rank fifth and seventh in defenseman scoring this season respectively and will seek to carry that offense from the blue line into the postseason.

For the Ducks, getting off to a good start will be critical to their success in the postseason, and it all begins with forward Jake Cox. Cox, a second year Duck, leads all players in the series with 33 goals on the season. However, he’ll be hard-pressed to find the back of the net easily, as the Brahmas are second in the NA3HL in goals against average with a 1.77.

Something that may be of note: The Ducks have only played one road game since January 16th, so the Brahmas may want to take advantage of home ice this weekend, where they are 18-5-0.

Puck drop on Saturday and Sunday will be at noon at the NYTEX Sports Centre. Admission is free. A third game will be played Monday at the same time if necessary. All games will be streamed on Hockey TV.
