Weekend Preview: Military Appreciation Weekend

Nov 25, 2015

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX – After an off week the Brahmas are well rested and ready for Military Appreciation Weekend.  Beginning Friday the team will begin a three game set against the Louisiana Drillers.

THE OPPOSITION: Currently 6-12-1 and holding down fifth place in the south division, the Drillers are coming off of a disappointing weekend in which they were swept by the Euless Jr. Stars.  Two weekends ago this very same Brahmas team took two out of three from them in their home arena, but this time around the series is at NYTEX.

In the Louisiana win that snapped the Brahmas win streak, goaltender Sean Angle was the standout start.  Stopping 48 out of 49 in any contest in undoubtedly considered a quality start, however he allowed 6 on 31 shots in Euless on Friday.

THE BRAHMAS: Now 14-3-2 the team is in prime positioning to close the gap on division-leading Point Mallard, who is off this weekend.  The goaltending tandem of Brandon Perrone and Tyler Myers is statistically one of the best in the entire league, however the blue line workers in front of them deserve plenty of credit as well.  Defensemen Jacob Elrod and Niklas McCallum are both an outstanding +16, making the right decisions while on the ice.

Captain Ryan Dunner continues to dazzle on the offensive end, recording nine points in his last four games.  Oliver Hay has held a hot hand as of late, too, bolstering four points in the last three Brahmas tilts.

THE DIFFERENCE: Goaltending.  Myers & Perrone combined goals against average is a minimal 1.84, world’s better than that of the Drillers who enter with a GAA of 5.00.  As mentioned prior, Angle was great for Louisiana in Lafeyette, however a performance such as that can’t be expected again.  Plus, he’s splitting time with two other goalies, Logan Quebedeaux and Alex Domas.  It’s possible the Brahmas get a good look at all three this weekend, however, whoever is in the cage, they’ll look to pepper with shots.

Puck drop is scheduled for 2:05 on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday as a part of Military Appreciation Weekend at NYTEX.  As always, it’s free admission so come on out and watch the boys dawn their special edition jerseys!
