Texas vanquishes Topeka in shootout, 4-3 (4-3 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Texas Jr. Brahmas defeated the Topeka Capitals in a shootout 4-3 (4-3 SO).

The shootout featured 12 attempts between both teams. Topeka\’s shootout goals were scored by Alex Sauer, Hank Roers, and Richard Yusa. Texas also got shootout goals from Sam Gagnon, Ryan Dunner, and Mykyta Sheptytsky.

The Jr. Brahmas came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Texas trailed 3-2 after a power play goal by the Capitals\’ Kyle Rimbach at 13:58 in the third period. The Jr. Brahmas knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Sheptytsky at 19:27 in the third period.

Texas was helped by Dunner, who registered one goal and one assist. Dunner scored 10:38 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Nick Nitta provided the assist. Texas additionally got points from Devin Pierce, who also tallied one goal and one assist. More assists for Texas came via Zach McPherson, who had one.

Topeka stifled the Jr. Brahmas\’ power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Topeka also had goals scored by Tre Kautzman and Spencer Sabourin, who scored one goal each. In addition, Topeka received assists from Andrew Cooley, who had two and Steve MacIver, Yusa, and Colin OConnor, who contributed one each.

Joe Hacker rejected 15 shots on goal for Texas. The Jr. Brahmas incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Bailey Aust recorded 24 saves for the Capitals. Topeka incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
