Special Special Teams

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX – The Brahmas opened their final home stint of the season with a commanding 4-1 victory over the Sugar Land Imperials on Friday.

Victor Ekk started the scoring in the first period at the 5:32 mark when he deflected a George Hansen shot from the point past Imperials netminder Kevin Mackey.   Ekk’s 21st of the season came on the power play and would set the tone for the rest of special teams play for the evening.

Loads of physical play covered the remainder of the first and the entirety of the second but scoring occurred for both sides in the final frame of regulation.

Just 53 seconds into the third Ryan Dunner made the score 2-0 after jamming one home in front with the man advantage.  Brock Brown and Sam Gagnon recorded assists on the tally but the lead wouldn’t last long.  A few minutes later, Alex Norwinski of Sugar Land beat Tyler Myers to cut the lead in half, setting the score to 2-1.

However, that would be the closest the Imperials would get to tying the game as exactly five minutes later Kyle Galloway received a beauty of a feed from Bryan Whelan to advance the score to 3-1.  Before the final buzzer sounded Brock Brown got involved in the scoring as he buried a juicy rebound for Whelan’s third assist of the night.

Picking his 15th win of the season in net was Tyler Myers.  The Imperials mustered just nine shots and the Colorado native turned aside eight of them.

The series continues tomorrow as the two teams battle at 7:05 at NYTEX Sports Centre.  Admission is free, so come check out the matchup of two south division playoff teams!
