Players To Watch: Playoffs Round Two

Mar 25, 2016

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX – Thanks to some impressive performances during Round One of the playoffs, the team has now earned a spot in Round Two, taking on the #1 Point Mallard Ducks.  Here are the players to watch for this series.

BRYAN WHELAN – #10 was one of the key factors for the Game Two and Game Three turnaround, contributing four points in the two games.  There is a feeling that after the game one nerves were kicked out of the way, the New Yorker could continue rolling into this series.

“Bryan has been potent all season for us but scored some key goals, as well as assists, for us in the first round.  He’s been particularly effective on the power play when paired with Gagnon,” remarked his head coach, Al Rooney.

JACOB ELROD – The blueliner scored the lone goal in the Game One loss last weekend, but there’s more to his skill set than just putting up numbers from the back end.  Point Mallard’s offense is dangerous, and Jacob’s defensive skill will be absolutely imperative this weekend.  Look for him to hone in and lock down.

“Elrod does a little bit of everything for us on the back end.  We will need him to handle Point Mallards group of forwards defensively while chipping in some offense of his own,” Rooney continued.

GOALTENDING – Brandon Perrone suffered the loss in Game One before Tyler Myers posted career performances in Games Two and Three.  However, that doesn’t mean that Perrone’s work is done.  Brandon could be called upon this weekend because it will be tough to expect Tyler to play how he did in the previous wins.

“You can only go as far as your goaltending will take you in playoff hockey.  The duo of Myers/Perrone will once again be leaned on heavily to slow down a high scoring team in the second round. We've yet to beat Point Mallard this season but I know the guys are hungry to do so.”
