Pierce nets hat trick, leads Texas to 5-3 win over Point Mallard

Devin Pierce netted a hat trick to lead the Texas Jr. Brahmas over the Point Mallard Ducks, 5-3.

Pierce got on the scoresheet 3:30 into the first period. He then added goals at 5:30 into the second and at 7:28 into the third.

Texas\’ penalty kill unit could not stop Point Mallard\’s power play, which converted on three of three opportunities.

Texas also had goals scored by Zach McPherson and Austin Davis, who scored one goal each. More assists for Texas came via Ryan Dunner, who had three and Jimmy Anderson, Mykyta Sheptytsky, Thomas Puetz, and Chase Deacon, who each chipped in one.

The Ducks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Point Mallard got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game.

The Ducks were helped by Justin Provencher, who tallied one goal. Provencher scored on the power play 9:56 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Point Mallard had gotten the advantage when the Jr. Brahmas\’ Nick Nitta was sent off for boarding. Noah Gilreath picked up the assist. Point Mallard also got points from Gilreath, who also registered one goal and one assist. Stephen Coulter also scored for Point Mallard. Other players who recorded assists for Point Mallard were Jake Cox, Grant Dukus, Justin Delisle, and Matt Darnell, who contributed one each.

Joe Hacker rejected 24 shots on goal for Texas. The Jr. Brahmas incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Roman Bengert recorded 15 saves for the Ducks. Point Mallard incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
