Dallas squeaks by Texas, 5-3

The Dallas Jr. Stars and the Texas Jr. Brahmas were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Dallas made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3.

The Jr. Stars gained the winning advantage on a goal by Josig Rochon 11:38 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Tyler Valentin was all over the ice for Dallas, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Valentin scored the first of his two goals on the power play at zero seconds into the second period to make the score 1-1. Kody Wagner assisted on the tally. Valentin\’s next tally on the power play made the score 2-1 Dallas with 17:01 left in the second period. The Jr. Stars had gained a power play chance when Jimmy Anderson was whistled for tripping. Wagner picked up the assist.

Dallas also got points from Blake McIntyre, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Rochon, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Kayne Fedor, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, Dallas received assists from Wyatt Gentry, who had one.

Dallas was unable to stop Texas from sending pucks towards the net, and the Jr. Brahmas eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

Texas was helped by Chase Deacon, who had one goal. Deacon scored 18:55 into the second period to make the score 3-3. Paolo DiGenova provided the assist. Others who scored for Texas included Brock Brown and Thomas Puetz, who scored one goal each. More assists for Texas came via Anthony Koslow, who had two and Jon Grimm and Daniel Skinner, who contributed one each.

Chris Mallon made 31 saves for the Jr. Stars on 34 shots. Dallas incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Quinton Reynolds recorded 23 saves for the Jr. Brahmas. Texas incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
