Cox leads Point Mallard over Texas, 5-1

Point Mallard\’s Jake Cox had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing two assists in his team\’s 5-1 win over Texas.

Cox beat Tyler Myers with a shot 17:03 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Point Mallard. Stephen Coulter assisted on the tally. Cox dished an assist on Jake Champaign\’s goal that made the score 1-0 Point Mallard at 7:24 into the first period. He added another helper on Josh Hamilton\’s goal that made the score 3-1 Point Mallard at 19:45 into the first period.

Point Mallard was led by goalie Cooper Seedott, who finished with 27 saves while allowing one goal. Seedott certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.42 entering the contest.

Point Mallard forced Texas\’ netminders to work between the pipes, racking up 54 shots and forcing 49 saves. Myers made 41 stops and Brandon Perrone made eight.

Point Mallard also got points from Hamilton, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Champaign, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Point Mallard included Justin Dunn and Justin Clark, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Point Mallard were Justin Delisle, Matt Goodman, and Matt Darnell, who each chipped in one.

Texas stifled Point Mallard\’s power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Texas\’ offense operated below its season average. Texas averages 4.7 goals per game. Texas gave up more goals than its normal season average. Texas averages 2.1 goals allowed per game.

Texas was led by Jacob Elrod, who scored the team\’s only goal. Elrod scored on the power play 14:03 into the first period to make the score 1-1. A boarding penalty on Nicholas Strom had put Texas on the power play. Ryan Dunner picked up the assist.
